In ancient times, people have appreciated the seasonal rituals and holidays, relieving the transition from one time of the year to another. Collecting together, they performed special rituals, cooked festive dishes, and prepared themselves for the changes. In our time, these important rituals are becoming more and more rare, but they are not forgotten either.
We present the guide to one of the most prominent Yoga and Ayurveda teachers – Katie Silk, how to get healthy and relaxed in the autumn. Of course, these are general recommendations that depend on where you live. But wherever you are – in the tropics or in Siberia, you will be able to feel better and adjust your body to changing seasons.
The fall season – autumn and early winter
In autumn the air element prevails. This is the season of the winds, the deserted streets, the feeling of the raw nature of nature. Listening to ourselves, we understand that physically and emotionally, in this period, we want to “snag”, to catch up. So we have to do. If the internal balance is disturbed during the winter, the states of fear, anxiety, insomnia, seasonal depression, joint pain, dry skin are exacerbated. All of them are related to insufficient sunlight. How you will take care of yourself in the autumn will determine your body’s ability to be healthy in the winter. Here are the recommendations of Silk:
Healing procedures for autumn and early winter
Eat warm soups often – not hot. Drink teas and milk if you do not have lactose intolerance, of course. Soups, teas and milk have a beneficial effect on the digestive system. Use spices like turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, nutmeg, coriander, cumin, dill and pepper.
– Make the so-called oil massage every morning. It is not only beneficial for the skin, it helps to break down the energy of the air, the surplus of which causes anxiety and insomnia. Superb butter for autumn and winter is the sesame. It has excellent nutritional properties, but it also warms and “nourishes” the soul. Another suitable oil is a Maharajan. You can buy it from a bio-shop. It contains more than 30 medicinal plants and is extremely useful for joint pain and other painful sensations.
– To stimulate the body and its natural defenses, make warming baths with a little ginger powder.
– Sleep around 22:00. Full relaxation is the main means of strengthening immunity. And just think, only in the autumn-winter season you can sleep as much as you want. Relax.
– Try not to wear clothes in black or dark blue in autumn and winter. The black color absorbs the light and creates a sense of emptiness. And it is in any case strengthened in the winter.
– Turn off all raw and cold products from your menu – salads, cold water, pastries.
– Do not blame yourself for the desire to stay at home. And as strange as it may seem, do not plan holidays for Christmas and New Year in warm countries. This will seriously upset your biorhythms. Try to follow the traditions, organize the holiday home in a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. Avoid loud places, too much music, physical overload, or too much active sex. Do not make diets, detox and try to talk less. This will balance your energies.
– At the same time, in autumn and winter you can practice more active yoga, which warms the body and makes it more flexible. Focus on exercises for the back, abdomen and pallas. These activities will make you more vibrant, cheerful, more smiling in a somber but so peaceful season. Enjoy it, do not get sick.
